Spring Term 2020
Dear parents. January 2020
Thank you all so much for the kind gifts and cards at the end of last term, it was very thoughtful of you. I hope you all had a lovely, relaxing and peaceful Christmas.
The spring term in Year 2 is always a busy one where the children make lots of progress and they have a lot to get through. Your support, this year, is so important. Please encourage and support your child in reading and completing their homework.
Please continue reading daily with your child. It is very helpful if you comment in the reading journal, such as, noting words or sounds they found challenging, their comprehension or pace and fluency. Please ensure that your child brings their book and reading journal to school every day. Don’t forget they can also enjoy books and other reading material from home. We will visit the school library, weekly, where the children can sign books in and out.
Each week your child will have homework set. Handwriting, spellings and homework books will be handed out on Friday and returned on Tuesday, although the spelling book can be returned on Wednesday as we will have our test then. Homework will be consolidating what the children have learnt that week in class. This term, we will introduce a maths computer programme called ‘ MyMaths’ which is an online programme. This allows children to conduct a variety of maths games and challenges. Each child will have their own password which will be handed to them.
PE continues to be on Wednesday afternoon (games) and on Thursday, a gymnastics lesson. PE kits for our lessons include a plain white T-shirt, black joggers, black shorts and plimsolls or trainers. Children must wear shorts and a T -shirt for gymnastics. All items must be clearly labelled.
We are very lucky to have drama this term on a Wednesday. This is a session where confidence blossoms, encourages children to cooperate, helps concentration but most of all, is fun.
Our RE topic this term is Good News and The Mass, following The Way, The Truth and The Life programme. Daily collective worship takes place and on a Thursday we have a class led worship which the children plan and oversee. This is a very thoughtful and reflective session which the children thoroughly enjoy taking part in. Our school value this term is ‘Dear Jesus, help me to forgive’ and ‘Dear Jesus, help me to be generous’.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to speak to me in the playground. Alternatively, you can send an email : email@example.com or place a note in your child’s book bag.

Autumn Term 1 2019
I hope that you had an enjoyable and peaceful summer holiday. The children are settling into the class routines and working hard. I would like to provide you with some information that will help the children in their learning.
It is very important that the children begin their day in a calm manner. The school day starts at 8.45am with the children lining up on the correct green line. Please make every effort to be on time so your child is settled for their learning. It is also important that your child has good attendance and only misses school when it is absolutely necessary.
It is very important to read every day with your child. They do not need to complete the reading book but encourage them by asking questions about the text. It is very helpful if you comment in the reading journal, such as, noting words or sounds they found challenging, their comprehension or pace and fluency. Please ensure that your child brings their book and reading journal to school every day. Don’t forget they can also enjoy books and other reading material from home.
Each week your child will have homework set. New spellings, homework and spellings will be handed out on Friday and returned from Tuesday, although the spelling book can be returned on Thursday as we will have our test then. I will check that the children have completed their homework and mark it. It is important that you encourage your child to work at home and return his/her homework on time. Homework will be consolidating what the children have learnt that week in class. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
We will have PE on Wednesdays (gymnastics/dance) and Thursday afternoons (games) the children will have a gymnastics lesson. It is important that the children have a complete PE kit for our lessons; these include a plain white T-shirt, black joggers, black shorts and plimsolls. Children must wear shorts and a T shirt for gymnastics. All items must be clearly labelled – This also includes your son or daughters school uniform.
Please see the attached topic web for this term. You will be able to see what the children will be focusing on. The RE topics for this term are chosen people and mysteries.
I look forward to meeting you all and please feel free to discuss with me any issues or concerns you have. It will be difficult to discuss matters first thing in the morning but I will usually be available to meet after school. I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year and see them progress.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to speak to me in the playground. Alternatively, you can send an email : firstname.lastname@example.org or place a note in your child’s book bag.
