Autumn Term 1 2019
September 2019
Dear parents/guardians
I hope that you had an enjoyable and peaceful summer holiday. The children are settling into the class routines and working hard. I would like to provide you with some information that will help the children in their learning.
Punctuality
It is very important that the children begin their day in a calm manner. The school day starts at 8.45am with the children lining up on the correct green line. Please make every effort to be on time so your child is settled for their learning. It is also important that your child has good attendance and only misses school when it is absolutely necessary.
Reading
It is very important to read every day with your child. They do not need to complete the reading book but encourage them by asking questions about the text. It is very helpful if you comment in the reading journal, such as, noting words or sounds they found challenging, their comprehension or pace and fluency. Please ensure that your child brings their book and reading journal to school every day. Don’t forget they can also enjoy books and other reading material from home.
Homework
Each week your child will have homework set. Handwriting, spellings and homework books will be handed out on Friday and returned on Tuesday, although the spelling book can be returned on Wednesday as we will have our test then. I will check that the children have completed their homework and mark it. It is important that you encourage your child to work at home and return his/her homework on time. Homework will be consolidating what the children have learnt that week in class. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
PE
We will have PE on Wednesday afternoon (games) and on Thursday the children will have a gymnastics lesson. It is important that the children have a complete PE kit for our lessons; these include a plain white T-shirt, black joggers, black shorts and plimsolls or trainers. Children must wear shorts and a T shirt for gymnastics. All items must be clearly labelled – This also includes your son or daughters school uniform.
The Curriculum
Please see the attached topic web for this term. You will be able to see what the children will be focusing on. The RE topics for this term are chosen people and mysteries.
I look forward to meeting you all and please feel free to discuss with me any issues or concerns you have. It will be difficult to discuss matters first thing in the morning but I will usually be available to meet after school. I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year and seeing them progress.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to speak to me in the playground. Alternatively, you can send an email : jmurphy108.209@lgflmail.org or place a note in your child’s book bag.
Yours Sincerely
Ms Murphy
