Autumn Term 1 2019
I am happy to welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year. I hope you had a relaxing summer break. I am looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve to their highest potential. The children have made a great start to the new term and are settling into the new routines in Year 3.
Here are some ways in which you can help and support your child in their learning:
Children should be in school on time in order to start the day calmly and promptly. Please make every effort to ensure that your child is on time so they are settled and ready for learning. Children should be ready to enter class as the bell rings at 8.45am.
Your child will be given a reading book and Reading Record Book to take home. It is important that your child reads for at least 10 minutes every day with you. Please encourage them by asking questions and discussing the plot, characters and theme. It is also very helpful to comment in the Reading Record Book. Please note any words your child found difficult, as well as comments on their fluency and understanding.
Your child will be given spellings to learn and handwriting homework each week. New spellings and handwriting books will be handed out on Thursdays. We will also be focussing on times tables and there will be extra work sent home for practice on some days.
Occasionally your child will be given homework in a work book to complete. This may be either a Literacy or Numeracy piece and it will reflect current learning in class.
Please encourage your child to complete their homework, supporting them where necessary.
Children are allowed to bring a piece of fruit into school to have at playtime. This does not include breakfast fruit bars.
It is important that your child has a complete PE kit for Gymnastic and PE lessons. We have inside PE on Mondays and outside PE on Tuesdays. The children are welcome to leave their P.E bags in class for the half term. Please ensure all items of clothing are clearly labelled.
Our topic for the first half term is Ancient Egypt. Please see the topic web for further details on this and what else we will be covering in all other subjects.
The RE topic this term is – The Christian Family
The children will develop their understanding that the church is the family of God and know that we join this family when we receive Sacrament of Baptism. They will learn what happens at Baptism and learn about the signs used and why they are used. They will learn about the promises made by parents and God parents at Baptism and develop their understanding of the Sacrament of Baptism.
I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to discuss them with me after school.
