The dignity of Work and Participation

As part of our learning about the dignity of workers, Year 4 have been exploring where our clothes come from and how the people who make them are treated. We discussed the importance of fair working conditions, fair pay, and respect for all workers around the world.

To help us understand this more deeply, we looked at the example of the clothing company SHEIN, which has been in the news for the way its clothes are made. We talked about how some workers in factories like these may not always be treated with the dignity and fairness they deserve — for example, working very long hours for little pay, or in unsafe conditions.

Harvest Festival 2025

This week, we welcomed a representative from Lewisham Foodbank to our school. They came to collect all the generous donations we gathered for our Harvest Foodbank appeal. The children were very proud to see how much food had been collected and to know that their contributions will help families in our local community.

During the visit, the children also learned about what happens at the foodbank — how donations are sorted, packed, and distributed to people in need. They asked thoughtful questions and found out how important teamwork and kindness are in supporting others.

Black History Month and Ant Bullying Week 2025

During Black History Month and Anti-Bullying Week, we are reminded of the importance of treating every person with respect and kindness. Both events highlight that everyone is created in the image and likeness of God, and therefore each person has inherent dignity and worth.

By learning about the achievements and struggles of Black individuals throughout history, we honour the dignity of every human person and stand against discrimination and injustice. In the same way, when we take part in Anti-Bullying Week, we show that kindness, acceptance, and standing up for others reflect our Catholic values.

Check out all the events during Black History Month and Anti Bullying Week on our PSHE page.

No Woman, No Cry

Chris Ofili’s No Woman, No Cry is a powerful and emotional painting that explores themes of grief, strength, and identity. The artwork was created in response to the tragic death of Stephen Lawrence. Every tear in this painting contains an image of Stephen Lawrence. It reminds us that every person is made in the image and likeness of God, and that we are called to treat everyone with respect and compassion, regardless of background or colour. Year 6 created some powerful art inspired by this painting.
