Year 2 Autumn Term 2021
I hope that you had an enjoyable and peaceful summer holiday. The children are settling into the class routines and making a good start to the academic year. I would like to provide you with some information that will help the children in their learning.
It is very important that the children begin their day in a calm manner. The school day starts at 8.45am with the children walking to their classrooms. Please make every effort to be on time so your child is settled for their learning. Children will be allowed in from 8.30am. if your child arrives after 8.45 they will be late. It is also important that your child has good attendance and only misses school when it is absolutely necessary.
Your child should read every day. They do not need to complete the reading book but encourage them by asking questions about the text. It is very helpful if you comment in the reading journal, such as, noting words or sounds they found challenging, their comprehension or pace and fluency. Please ensure that your child brings their book and reading journal to school every day. Don’t forget they can also enjoy books and other reading material from home.
Each week your child will have homework set. New spellings, homework and handwriting will be handed out on Friday and needs to be returned by Thursday the latest. I will check that the children have completed their homework and mark it. It is important that you encourage your child to work at home and return his/her homework on time. Homework will be consolidating what the children have learnt that week in class. Your support will be greatly appreciated.
We will have PE on Wednesdays (dance) and Friday (gymnastics). It is important that the children have a complete PE kit for our lessons; these include a plain white T-shirt, black joggers, black shorts and plimsolls. Children must wear shorts and a T shirt for gymnastics. Your child will need to arrive at school in their PE pm these days.
Please see the attached topic web for this term. You will be able to see what we are be focusing on for this term. The RE topics for this term are chosen people and mysteries.
I look forward to meeting you all and please feel free to discuss with me any issues or concerns you have. It will be difficult to discuss matters first thing in the morning but I will usually be available to meet after school. I am looking forward to working with you and your children this year and see them progress.
If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to speak to me in the playground. Alternatively, you can send an email : firstname.lastname@example.org or place a note in your child’s book bag.
Visit to St Pauls Cathedral 10 November ( I would like to have some parent helpers that day please.)
