Year 2 Summer Term 2021
We will continue with our class book ‘Hotel Flamingo.’ Children will write in information booklet about flamingos and share these with the class. We will also see whether their prediction about the book at the start was correct.
Black Rock- Following the CLPE scheme, this book links with our geography topic of ‘under the sea – Oceans’
Punctuation, spelling and sentence level
Children will identify, represent and estimate numbers using different representations, including the number line. We will continue to compare and order numbers from 0 up to 100 and use <, > and = sign. Children will compare and sequence intervals of time, tell and write the time to five minutes, including quarter past/to the hour and draw the hands on a clock face to show these times. They will gain confidence in understanding and knowing the number of minutes in an hour and the number of hours in a day.
Measurement- weight, length, time, capacity, mass and temperature
Geometry- position and direction
Solve one and two step problems
Multiplication- 2, 5, 10 times tables
Using the inverse

Plants- To observe and describe how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants

Find out and describe how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow and stay healthy
We are extremely lucky to have wonderful planters in the school, Yr2 love to look after these by weeding, turning over the soil, planting our seeds and watering the plants.
All children take part in a challenge to see who can grow the tallest sunflower.
A focus on pollinators and how important they are for plants.

Geography- Under the Sea topic
Children will learn about the animals that live in the oceans and seas
Look at the coasts of Britain and the care we need to take of the beaches

Consider the conservation of the ocean and how we need to sustain the marine life
In DT, the children will create a beach scene in a cardboard box. They will complete a process diary where they plan what they want their beach to look like and decide the equipment needed.
